Rogue followed after Remy. She’d scold him after this. She kept trying to get the communicator working but was only getting bits and pieces of the conversation. At least he had sense to worry about the kids but he was only going to hurt himself more!
She was relieved when they found most of them. At least they had sense to group together. She did a headcount, but Remy noticed the missing one before she did. Her eyes widened and she turned quick, watching as he went off.
“Cajun! You be careful or else Ah’ll have yer hide!” She called after him. She held up the comunicator. ”An’ ya’ll get yer asses in gear or else they’ll be mine an’ ya’ll be out for a month!”
“Yes, ma’am.” He called over his shoulder jovially, giving a salute over his shoulder. Gambit sped through the cloud of dust, trying his best to not inhale any. Covering his mouth with his trench coat, he paused and looked for another familiar colorful spark, but so nothing but dust.
“Petite!” He called nervously. “Jubilee.” He said quieter, eyes searching the cloud. The sound of a wheezing cough caught his attention to his right. Gambit followed the sound, skidding to a stop before the huddled mound. “Petite, ya awraht?”
She nodded, voice muttled by the air. ”Just…my ankle.” Jubilee coughed out. He couldn’t examine it here and there was no way of knowing when the next explosion would take place. Gambit pulled off his jacket wrapping it around her and knelt down to let her climb onto his back with a wince.
He broke for opening, his breath hitched with the added weight. As soon as he found broke from the cloud of dust, he stumbled to his knees wheezing.
Rogue was worried, very worried about that cocky sunuvagun Cajun. She kept the kids together and screamed at the comm for the people to shut down the program or else a whole slew of threats.
Finally, just as she saw that damn Cajun again, the simulation shut down. The medical team entered quickly to assess the injuries and Rogue made her way over to the Cajun.
“Remy!” She said, kneeling down in front of him. ”Remy, are you all right? Ya durn fool! What in th’ world did ya think ya were doin’?!”
The dust clung to every uncovered part of of him along with the faint wetness of the drying blood and sweat. He coughed, before looking up at her with his most award winning smile. “Aww, ya were worried chere? Ya shouldn’ haf~.” He helped the teen off his back, shaking his head at her thanks, and waving her off to be looked at by the medics.
“Ah was thinkin’ of doin’ mah job o’course.” Gambits voice was rough and dry from the dust, but still held much of his previous energy despite his condition. He didn’t risk moving, but reached a gloved hand to trace her features that had been delivered so lovingly close to his face. His glowing smile replaced by something more serene.
“Ah’m awraht chere. Jus’ a’lil worse fer wear.” His nose wrinkled in amusement at her changing expressions. It was just another thing that seemed to alleviate his pain.
“Oh shut up, ya dirty swamp rat!” Rogue scolded him. She gave a bit of a pout, knowing he was right. They were supposed to look after the kids. And he did that. But he just had to go and be all savior or something. Running off like that.
She watched him as he reached out and traced her features. She noticed it was hard to breath but she blamed that on the dust circulating a bit still. Couldn’t possibly be anything to do with the Cajun in front of her that was silly.
She gave him a scowl and wrapped on of his arms around her shoulders and helped to hoist him to her feet.
“Well, ya durn fool,” she said, “let’s get ya to the infirmary. Get ya right patched up and back ta chasin’ skirts in no time.”

Gambit followed his first instinct and put himself between her and the blast. It nearly knocked him down over her. His ears were ringing and the dust that flew around them stung his eyes. He pulled her up.
“You awrigh’ chere?!” He spoke over the chaos, his arms still locked around her, not quite ready to let go.
He ignored the slight sore wetness at his back and quickly checked her over, before turning to get a glimpse of the area. He coughed—tasting iron, and righted himself, eyes searching the smoke worriedly for the kids. This smoke was going to make their job extra difficult.
Ruby eyes widened, when he saw another flash in the distance. “Dhere’s somedhing wrong in ‘cheer.” After giving her another worried look, Remy hesitantly released her. He bit the inside of his cheek, when he moved, knowing full well he was injured. “Ah don’ dhink dhis is ovah. We need ta get dhe kids.” The adrenaline kept most of the pain at bay as he moved swiftly toward the area he’d seen the flash.
“Remy!” Rogue yelled as she saw the man move in between her in the blast. She felt worry pang at her being. ”Remy, ya dern fool!” She examined him as he examined her. He had taken a hit and he was injured.
“Turn this damn room off now!” She shouted into the communicator. There was a fizz and statements of the control room’s attempts to shut it down. She turned back to Remy, worry evident on her face.
“Right, we needta check on the kids, find a safe place, an’ wait fer those idiots ta get this place back under control!” She followed after him, noting his injuries. She couldn’t get rid of that gnawing concern she had. If he pushed himself too far and he did that to protect her and he was…
He was an idiot who was going to get himself killed, one way or another.
The ringing in his eyes died down with the pain as they ran. Gambit ignored it and kept moving. This was nothing. He’d probably gotten worse just from looking at his ol’dad wrong. He cringe a little at the thought, but continued forward, till they broke from the smoke.
He sighed in relief, when he saw a group of massing students. “There’s most of’em.” His eyes traced the faces, quickly noticing at least one key missing. “…but not all of’em.” He looked over his shoulder, spying a familiar spark amongst the smoke.
“Petite.” He murmured, staring in the direction of the signal Jubilee had sent off.
He shook his head and took off toward them. “You stay wit’ dhem, darlin’. Can’ be leavin’ troops behind.” He flashed her a smile, before her face disappeared behind the dark cloud of dust that’d settled around them.

Rogue knew the traps and the simulations that were there. The Brotherhood, the Nasty Boys, and the Acolytes. And a few antimutant rallies with some of those tools as well.
Rogue examined Remy and how near he liked to stand with displeasure before turning back to the kids.
“Group up inta teams of three or four,” she ordered. ”The team that comes back with the most flags wins. Now, off with ya and don’ die.” The teenagers quickly arranged themselves in their teams and headed off to find the flags. Rogue turned to look at Remy.
“Time ta patrol,” she said, turning and walking off to find a spot to keep a good eye on the kids.
Remy caught the disapproving look at the corner of his eye and leaned closer with a smug grin. His arm was hovering looped over her waist. His watched the kids group up with mild interest, before turning his full attention to fiery green eyes, still giving him the most pointed of looks. He nodded curtly. “Awright, darlin’ anydhing ya say.”
His winced slightly as she sashayed away, letting out a quite wolf whistle. It was going to be awfully hard to keep his full attention on the exercise with the way she was walking about in front of him. He hurried ahead to catch up, not before sparing one last glance at her posterior.
Something flashing to his left caught his eye, making him pause a moment. “Chere…” He called. “Ah don’ dhink dhis is gonna be…”
Click, click.
Boom.
He was impossible. Every single hint she gave he blatantly ignored. It just seemed to stir him on even more it seemed. Persistent little swamp rat. Rogue smacked his arm away. There was no way he was going to cozy up to her like that. Darn fool was going to get hurt.
She misstepped when she heard the wolf whistle and nearly facepalmed. He just didn’t stop. But she wouldn’t let him distract her. She had a job to do and it was to make sure everything went smoothly.
She let out a groan of annoyance as Remy spoke again.
“What, Cajun?” She snapped, turning to face him. She heard the noise, though, eyes widened and she ducked.
This was not part of the plan.
Gambit followed his first instinct and put himself between her and the blast. It nearly knocked him down over her. His ears were ringing and the dust that flew around them stung his eyes. He pulled her up.
